Horror or Reality? The Korean Mountain Location Behind Kian’s Bizarre B&B Season 2

A strange noise. A broken egg. A story about a ghost at a recording studio. And a group of musicians who apparently kept stumbling on the same final step while heading into a basement.

What began as a ghost story on Kian’s Bizarre B&B Season 2 suddenly felt a little more intriguing because of where the show is set: deep in the mountains of Daegwallyeong, South Korea.

What exactly happened on Kian’s B&B Season 2?

Kian’s B&B Season 2, which has been filled with fun and unexpected moments since its premiere, took a spooky turn in Episode 6. While most of the guests at the B&B had gone to sleep, Lee Jun-ho, Kian and trainee monk Gyo-pi stayed up for a late-night conversation. Gyo-pi was looking for a funny story, but Jun-ho had something much scarier to share.

Jun-ho recalled an incident from his trainee days much before he became a member of the boy band 2PM , when he would walk down to the basement with the other members for practice. According to his story, something strange would happen almost every day: everyone would somehow trip while taking the final step down the stairs.

There was, however, one exception—a young female trainee who never seemed to stumble. While the others couldn’t understand why they kept tripping at the same spot, Jun-ho said the girl had an explanation. She claimed that another little girl was grabbing their ankles as they walked down the stairs.

As Jun-ho recounted the story, he suddenly grabbed Kian’s ankle to demonstrate what he meant. Just then, an unexpected popping sound startled everyone, instantly turning the light-hearted storytelling session into a much more terrifying moment.

The trio later discovered that there was a far less supernatural explanation for the noise. The monk went to investigate and found that an egg placed inside the sauna room had burst.

So, while the story may have started with a ghost, the mysterious sound ultimately had a perfectly ordinary explanation. Still, it was enough to give everyone at the B&B a memorable scare.

What is this place actually like?

Season 2 moved the B&B from the island setting of Season 1 to wintertime Daegwallyeong. Korean reports describe the new B&B as being in the deep mountain area of Daegwallyeong, deliberately contrasting the second season’s snowy mountain environment with Season 1’s Ulleungdo setting.

Daegwallyeong itself sits high in the Taebaek Mountains, at roughly 832 metres, and the surrounding Pyeongchang landscape is overwhelmingly mountainous. Daegwallyeong Snow Town says around 80% of its land is forest. The area also includes forest plantations with firs, Korean pines, Norway spruce and Japanese larches.

Surrounded by mountains, forests and winter snow, Daegwallyeong already has the kind of landscape that can make an ordinary nighttime story feel considerably less ordinary. The episode raises the question of whether the remote setting is as eerie as it looks on screen.

There is no verified evidence that the Kian B&B location is haunted, but its setting is undeniably remote and heavily forested.
