The iconic opening credits of Dexter are back, and longtime fans have a reason to revisit a familiar morning routine. Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 recreates the original sequence, complete with Rolfe Kent’s recognisable theme, as the franchise marks 20 years since the first series premiered.
The recreation first appears in the Season 2 premiere, which debuted on October 30, 2026. It follows the original sequence closely, from Dexter waking up and getting ready to his breakfast routine and departure from home. Even the runtime remains unchanged at one minute and 39 seconds.

What’s different this time?
The familiar visuals have been updated with details that reflect Dexter’s life in the present.
Instead of the original breakfast imagery, the new sequence features multigrain bread, freshly prepared coffee and a red-marmalade-filled doughnut. The red filling also offers a visual callback to the show’s earlier imagery.

There are other subtle changes. Dexter now shows signs of physical discomfort while getting dressed, while a red ribbon and a black garbage bag bring a different visual detail to the sequence. The updated routine reflects a character who has grown older, even if some of his habits remain familiar.
A reunion with the show’s past
The return of the opening is particularly fitting for the franchise’s 20th anniversary. In an interview with EL PAÍS, Michael C. Hall described revisiting it as stepping into the “ghost” of his former self — an interesting reflection on playing a character who has aged alongside him.
Showrunner Clyde Phillips also revealed that recreating the sequence came together after the season’s budget had already been finalised, making its return an especially welcome surprise.
Rather than simply repeating a familiar title sequence, Dexter: Resurrection gives it a new context. The result is a nostalgic nod to the original series, with enough small changes to remind viewers that neither Dexter nor the world around him has stood still.
